St Kilda is one of Melbourne's most beloved neighbourhoods — and as your hosts here, we want you to experience the best of it. From sunset walks along the pier to Sunday morning markets and world-class dining, St Kilda punches well above its weight for a suburb just 6 kilometres from the CBD. This guide is put together by us at Shelley Stayz, based on years of living and hosting in the area. Bookmark it before you arrive.

St Kilda Beach is the suburb's centrepiece — a long sandy stretch with palm-lined paths, a boardwalk, and some of the best sunset views in Melbourne. It's great year-round: swim in summer, walk the foreshore in autumn, or watch the kite surfers do their thing. The beach is a 5–10 minute walk from most of our apartments.

One of St Kilda's most magical experiences is completely free. Walk to the end of St Kilda Pier at dusk and you'll likely spot the resident colony of Little Penguins returning from a day at sea. They waddle ashore near the breakwater most evenings. Arrive about 20 minutes before sunset for the best chance — and bring a jacket, it gets breezy out on the water.

The iconic grinning face at the entrance to Luna Park has been welcoming visitors since 1912, making it one of Melbourne's oldest amusement parks. Whether you're bringing kids or just want that perfect photo, it's a St Kilda rite of passage. Check their website for seasonal ride updates and special events.
Every Sunday, the St Kilda Esplanade hosts one of Melbourne's best open-air markets, stretching along the beachside promenade. You'll find handmade jewellery, art, ceramics, clothing, and street food all in one spot. It runs from around 10am to 4pm — a perfect excuse for a morning coffee and a browse before lunch.

The Palais Theatre is a grand Art Deco venue that has hosted some of the world's biggest acts since the 1920s. Check what's on during your stay — seeing a show here is a genuinely special Melbourne experience. It's right on the Esplanade, a short walk from the beach.

St Kilda has one of Melbourne's best dining scenes, concentrated around Fitzroy Street, Acland Street, and the Esplanade. For coffee and brunch: Pablo Honey on Grey Street is a local favourite for relaxed, quality coffee. Batch Espresso is smaller but punches above its weight. Monarch Cakes on Acland Street has been serving its famous continental cakes since 1934 — don't leave without trying a vanilla slice. For lunch and dinner: Republica is great for long lunches with a beachfront vibe. Captain Baxter does brilliant sunset cocktails. Hotel Esplanade (The Espy) is the iconic St Kilda pub with live music and a rooftop bar. For a special occasion, Cafe Di Stasio on Fitzroy Street is considered one of Melbourne's finest Italian restaurants — book well in advance.

St Kilda is one of Melbourne's most walkable suburbs — most of the beach, cafes, restaurants, and attractions are within 15 minutes on foot from our apartments. For trips further afield, trams run frequently along Fitzroy Street and St Kilda Road, connecting you to the CBD in around 20–30 minutes. You don't need a car to enjoy St Kilda.
